OUR VISION & MISSION

In a perfect world, we ALL would get along in a harmonious, peaceful manner, but the fact of the matter is, that is simply not the case.

One day last year, my husband Earl & I were having a conversation about all of the racial turmoil & general unrest in the country. We discussed what we might be able to do to help bring attention & awareness to some of these issues in our own community. After discussing this with our children, we came up with the idea to do a community march/walk, in hopes of unifying the community & help build a bridge of communication, as well as bring attention to the diversity of our city. We also felt that this would be an opportunity to showcase our town, in hopes that others would feel welcome to come visit, or maybe even make it their home.

With UNITY, we aim to show that people of all different backgrounds, ethnicities, races, religions, color, lifestyles or political affiliations, can all come together and have conversations, not confrontations. This is an opportunity to fellowship, network, get to know your "neighbor," and make an earnest effort to live in PEACE & understanding.

Our inaugural "Unity In The Community Walk" was held on July 11, 2020 with an attendance of approximately 75-100 people, and it was a great day to meet new people, form new alliances & friendships. It was an opportunity for people to show that, no matter our differences, we can learn from & respect one another, which is beneficial to EVERYONE.

Our goal is to  to host our walk annually, and our future goal is to have an annual picnic, festival, or barbecue, to help bring our community together, and as a way to access & address community "needs." If we can't help, we would like to  put people in contact with someone who can. We would also like to form a non-profit organization,  to help serve the needs of our most underserved citizens.

Realistically, we realize we may not be able to change the world, but we CAN do our part to make it a little better. When we focus more on what brings us together, not that which moves us further apart, we can get things done.

When my grandchildren are old enough to ask if I did anything during these times of confusion & trouble, I would like to at least tell them that I TRIED.  Peace, Respect, Love, Caring, Equality, Diversity; simple words, profound meanings!      Patsy H. Hunt, Founder & President
